Happy Mothers Day to all those amazing Mums out there, doing the most important job in the world. Today is a day when we spoil our Mums and shower them with gifts - I was the very lucky recipient of breakfast in bed this morning - at 7.15 this morning! But what do Mums really want these days - what does your educated , skilled Stay at Home Mum want? I'll tell you what she wants, what she really really wants.... Her number 1 priority and I have been speaking to hundreds of Stay At Home Mums this past year, is FLEXIBILITY in the workplace.

All these educated ,skilled and competent women who have invested time, money, blood , sweat and tears into a third level education are seeking a foothold in the workplace. Some of these Mums have worked their way up corporate ladders and they have done the late nights and crazy deadlines - they've stepped off the treadmill to stay at home for a short period perhaps and are finding it pretty impossible to get back on.. They have taken time off to mind their babies and now the kids are a little bit older and their time is freed up again to return to the workplace. They are Mums who live in the country , perhaps they were forced to live in rural areas because of crippling property prices in urban centres - now they find themselves isolated with few real job opportunities to challenge them in their catchment area. We are not saying that you should give Mums flexible roles to positively impact your gender balance within your workforce. We are not saying you should employ Mums because you feel sorry for them and it might look good from a Corporate Social Responsibility angle. We are saying you should engage Employmum for people based on meritocracy and the fact that this skilled flexible workforce is a resource that it is ready, willing and more than able to fill your demanding flexible roles.

'The competition to hire the best will increase in the years ahead. Companies that give extra flexibility to their employees will have the edge in this area' Bill Gates If you have flexible roles and are interested in registering as an employer, please feel free to get in touch. We would love to talk to you. Happy Mothers Day!
